Remembering Grant Thompson | A Few The King of Random Faves

Zac’s nightly bedtime routine includes him and I watching a few of our favorite YouTubers and then reading a story or a chapter from a book together. It’s something we’ve done for the last three years, at least. The first video I can remember watching with Zac was How to Make LEGO Gummy Candy and let’s just say from that moment on, we were hooked.

The King of Random YouTube channel teaches and demonstrates all of the things we ‘should not try at home’  In recent months, while I’ve been publicly critical across my social media platforms of the way the channel was progressing (ie. wasting food, creating messes just for the sake of messes) we still tune in each day to watch whatever Callie and Nate are up to.

When Grant Thompson started his YouTube channel he began with things like creating high voltage electricity from glass bottles and salt water, building arc welders from microwaves and rocket motors from sugar! The King of Random channel now reaches over 10 million subscribers and offers a host of merch; some of which we’ve even purchased ourselves! T-shirts and fidget spinners, anyone?

Today I wanted to share a few of Zacs favorite King of Random videos in hopes that those not familiar with them, will come to know, love  and enjoy them as we have over the years. Grant Thompson will truly be missed.

How to Make Liquid Oxygen

Some of our favorite The King of Random videos involve liquid nitrogen, using it to freeze food, crushing food with sledgehammers and watching it fly around the room – a modern-day Gallagher of sorts. I credit Grant Thompson for instilling in Zac an interest in chemistry based on what he did in his videos. Additionally, this How to Make Liquid Oxygen video is pretty awesome as well!

How to Make a Laser Assisted Blowgun

Finally, after asking Zac what is favorite Grant Thompson video of all time was, he answered without hesitation ‘the blowgun video’

There are countless videos to watch, you’re guaranteed to find something interesting, fun or exciting to check out – so I urge you to take some time and peruse The King of Random YouTube channel! It is a sad day in our house today, and our thoughts and prayers are with the entire TKOR family, especially Grants’ wife and children. May he R.I.P.
