I have this annoying homeschool mom habit of taking a random thought, idea or new movie and running with it, often turning the mundane into a history, science or geography lesson.
Disney movies are no different, which is why I’m looking forward to the newest release from Disneynature: Penguins on Earth Day. The movie is set for release on Earth Day.
Disneynature has a committment to conservation and the film they create empower audiences to help make a difference in conservation efforts and supporting the wildlife featured in the films.
Because of how well these educational Disney are done, I naturally took the ‘penguin’ theme and ran with it.
Here I share with you some resources from across the web, personal experiences as well as the official official Disneynature Penguins activity pack (scroll to the bottom of the post for the download)
Where to Get Up Close and Personal with Penguins
I grew up visiting the New England Aquarium in Boston where the penguin exhibit includes more than 80 African, rockhopper, and little blue penguins and remember it being one of my favorite exhibits.
If you were any where near New England in the 80s then the phrase “I can walk like a penguin” will bring back some memories!
While we won’t be heading back to Boston as a family for a few more years, we love incorporating what we learn into our travels and were able to visit the Penguin Encounter at Ripley’s Aquarium of The Smokies in Gatlinburg a few years ago.
What’s exciting is that it looks as though the Myrtle Beach location may soon have a Penguin Encounter of their very own.
We’ll be sure to keep you posted.
A day-trip from Charleston to Riverbanks Zoo and Garden will get you up close and personal with the Gentoo, King and Rockhopper Penguins!
Families with homeschooled children ages 5–13 can partake in hands-on learning experiences during Riverbanks’ Homeschool Monday programs throughout the school year.

Disneynature Penguins Activity Guide and Teachers Resource Book
Disneynature’s all-new feature film “Penguins” is a coming-of-age story about an Adélie penguin named Steve who
joins millions of fellow males in the icy Antarctic spring on a quest to build a suitable nest, find a life partner and
start a family.
None of it comes easily for him, especially considering he’s targeted by everything from killer whales
to leopard seals, who unapologetically threaten his happily ever after.
